AWE represented in Malaysia by Sevda Tantan
Posted Jun 01, 2006 - 08:50 AM

Aviation and Women in Europe Hi Ladies,

IFALDA/EUFALDA General Meeting and World Airline Flight Dispatcher's Conference was held in Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. It was a fascinating meeting. Malaysian colleagues were very friendly and we thank them for their hospitality. This meeting was really important for us because many Asian Airlines such as Malaysia Airlines (our hosts), Air China, China Hainan Airlines and China Southern joined us.

Following are listed some of the interesting topics and speakers.

Decision Support Systems – Mr. Colin Pollard, Regional Director WSI Europe

Hapag-Lloyd Accident Report - Captain Raimund Zopp, Flugwerkzeuge

Operations Audits Quality – Mr. Ingo Pucks, LIDO

Polar Operations- Mr. Mike Stills- Manager International Operations, United Airlines

Operational Control in China – Mr. Cui Yong, China Southern & Mr. Wang Xiaocheng, China Hainan Airlines

The Model of Operational Control in Europe – Mr. Ton Dortmans, Director, Operational Control Center KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.

AUSOTS –Australian Flex Tracks – Mr. Greg Mcdonald and Mr. Garth Cooper, Airservices Australia

If you look at the website, you can find all of the presentations there.

I had an opportunity to present AWE - Aviation and Women in Europe. I based my presentation on the one Michelle Bassanesi gave in Nashville, which included the details of the beginnings of AWE, our purpose, and our long-term goals. Of course, I invited everybody to our next meeting which will be held the 15th - 17th September 2006 in Varese , Italy.

I met several female dispatchers from Malaysia Airlines in which they explained to me that they have 55 male and 6 female dispatchers but no female pilot yet. I was able to suggest to them to begin an Asian Chapter of WAI. Hopefully they will be interested and have contact with us. In addition, China Hainan Airlines has 1 female pilot but no female dispatchers.

For the time being, good-bye to everyone and I will see you at our 2nd meeting in Varese, in September.

Please do not forget to look at the Gallery as I took some pictures for you.

Sevda
