"Open Day" 2nd June 2007 - Trento
Thanks to the generous hospitality of Maria Fede Caproni, daughter of the late Eng. Gianni Caproni, we were treated to see the Ca.100 flying after 65 years!!
The original Caproni Ca.100, the only airworthy example out of 2 remaining worldwide, was restaured by Mr. Gerolamo Gavazzi, whom also restaured a seaplane version of the same type. Two perfect flying replicas have been built from vintage blueprints and have been taken to the air by the "appassionato mecenate trentino" Mario Marangoni together with his son Vittorio and Giancarlo Zanardo, the latter of whom already has built several replicas including the Wright Flyer.
These two planes are part of an ambitious project to bring "back to life" the memory of the early Caproni aircraft: the next endeavour is the Ca-1, first original-design airplane built in Italy.
The Ca.100 was the standard flight trainer in Italy from 1928 till the end of WWII: last operating example (I-ABMT owned by Gerolamo Gavazzi) was retired from flight service in 1968. The "Caproncino" made history as the first mass-produced Italian GA aircraft. Produced in Italy, Bulgaria and Perù for two decades and several hundred examples in terrestrial and seaplane version, only 5 original aircraft are left in the world, only two of them airworthy, plus the 2 replicas. The hydro version, of historical importance, belonging to the Caproni Museum Collection, together with the land version, underlines the operating flexibility and agility of a really popular as well as rugged airplane.
Event in the event, Capt. Francesco Volpi, 92-years old but still flying, had a chance to fly the Ca.100 again after 1935, when he got his first certificate.

What a Week! AirVenture 2008
What a week it was! It's hard to imagine that not long ago thousands of airplanes were parked in the North 40, hundreds of exhibitors were showing their most recent innovations, and tens of thousands of aviation enthusiasts were enjoying EAA AirVenture 2008, the World's Greatest Aviation Celebration. Along with the new product announcements, special events, aircraft demos, and air shows that filled the daylight hours, an unprecedented evening program line-up made this a true "24/7" AirVenture. EAA's considerable efforts to capture the convention resulted in more than 82 videos, close to 30 photo galleries, and nearly 250 stories reported on throughout the week. Enjoy "AirVenture-365" on the AirVenture website www.airventure.org
