Congratulations! What a decade! How far they have come! And more o­n the way! AWE is very happy to have been part of the Broken Baron's 10th Anniversary Celebration at Serristori airfield, near Arezzo.

Michelle Bassanesi, our founder as well as special reporter almost everywhere, was there to appreciate how disabled pilots managed to become an organized and well trained team in ten years from their foundation.

Their effort is a great success considering that, differently from almost everywhere else, disabled in Italy cannot fly anything. Ten years ago the situation was even more difficult, since JAR were not even known and no standardization at all was applied among EEC Countries.

A small group of disabled, headed by Franco Bentenuti, managed to begin flying o­n Ultralights since Italian rules in this case were favourable: airplanes were adequately modified and several other students came from all over Italy to learn to fly in Serristori, which is so far the o­nly UL school authorized to teach disabled. Instrumental in changing the laws and also their first instructor is Luciano Giannini.
